Marissa’s Juices and a Sad Realization

As promised, here are the juices that Marissa made. Like I said in my previous post, she is way more adventurous than me when it comes to making juice. She bought veggies in addition to yummy fruit, which also made her juices some pretty funny colors.

She didn’t have any recipes or amounts written down, but you can play with the flavors and make them taste the way you like.

Now onto my sad realization. About a year ago, I started having some issues with acid reflux but I never really thought too much of it. I’m pretty sure that drinking the fruit juice made it come back worse than ever. So, I won’t be doing much more juicing. But, Marissa still loves it, so if she comes over and makes juices again, I will be sure to write down what she uses and post them for y’all!

Have a great night, everyone!

Finally Broke Out The Juicer!

About two years ago I bought a juicer. I used it once. Since then, it has been in my closet collecting dust. Well, one of my friends really wanted to make juice so we broke it out. And boy, am I glad we did. Here are three juice recipes that I used. I will get her’s from her today and post those later.

But for now, here are my juice recipes:

Strawberry Kiwi Juice:
2 Kiwis
9 Strawberries (they were pretty big. So if your’s are small, add extra)
1 apple (we used empire)

Orange Applade
1/2 an orange (our oranges were HUGE, if you use regular oranges, use a whole orange)
3 apples
1 lemon

Strawberry Orange
1 orange (if you use regular sized oranges, use two)
9 strawberries
1 apple

The final products!!

If you have any great juice recipes, feel free to comment with them below, maybe I’ll be more adventurous next time and add some yummy carrots or something.

I will post Marissa’s soon 🙂

Have a great day!

Two Smoothies, One Post!

This weekend I bought some protein powder, greek yogurt, coconut water, and a bag of frozen mixed berries to make smoothies and my goodness are they delicious. I have done two smoothies now, and they have both been delicious! They have been very similar, with just slight variations between the two.

The first one I made had the following:

1 cup frozen berries (strawberries, raspberries, blueberries, and blackberries)

1 scoop (about 1/4 cup) vanilla protein powder

1/2  cup coconut water

1 container of Strawberry Greek Yogurt

Making these is, of course, as simple as throwing all of it into a blender and mixing it. But, holy moly it was yummy. The protein powder messes with the texture a bit, so be prepared for that. Other than that though, they’re delicious.

Smoothie number one was an light purple color.

To make the second smoothie, I used:

about a 1/4 cup of pomegranate juice

1/2 cup coconut water

1 cup frozen berries (same as before)

1 scoop (about 1/4 cup) vanilla protein powder

1 container of Strawberry Banana Greek Yogurt

Again, throw it all in the blender and mix it up. This one was even better than the first. The pomegranate juice really added a little something extra!

So much brighter because of the pomegranate juice, and that much more delicious.

Chocolate Banana Peanut Butter Smoothie

Some mornings I really don’t want eggs, toast, or oatmeal for breakfast, or really any other solid foods. So, on those mornings, it’s great to have a smoothie available. One of my favorites is this one. I love the chocolate, peanut butter, and banana combination. I think it’s really yummy and it fills you up.

yummy!
yummy!

Here is what you’ll need for this yummy smoothie:

6 ice cubes
1/4 cup non fat plain or vanilla greek yogurt
1/4 cup – 1/2 cup almond milk (depending on the thickness you want)
1 banana
1 teaspoon cocoa powder

Throw everything in the blender and then turn your blender on (I always use pulse) until everything is mixed together really well. At this point, if you want it thinner, add more almond milk and mix again.

Strawberry Lime Margaritas

I’m not going to lie and say that I don’t enjoy a drink occasionally. I’m not ashamed of that fact and I’m not going to pretend that I don’t. However, when I decided to lead a healthier lifestyle I gave up those sugary mixes and started making my own drinks using fresh ingredients. But, I’ve said all of this before so, moving on.

Yum!
Yum!

I have never been a huge tequila person, but everyone now and then, it’s nice to have a cool, icy, and refreshing margarita. When making them at home, it’s easy to go for the ready to use mixes. While they do put out yummy drinks, they also contain way more sugar than I want to consume.

Here’s what you’ll need to make a delicious homemade strawberry and lime margarita from scratch:

3 strawberries (if they’re small use 4 or 5) + 1 for garnish if you’d like
2 limes
8-10 ice cubes
sea salt (for the rim)
2 oz of Tequila
1/2 tablespoon of sugar

This drink is really simple to make.

First, put your sea salt on a plate. Then, zest a lime and mix your lime zest in with the salt. Set that aside for the rim of your glass.

Next, cut up your strawberries and place them in a bowl. Add your 1/2 teaspoon of sugar to them. Mix them, and let them sit out for a few minutes until they start to release some of their juices.

This will help to cut some of the acidity of the limes and give you a little bit of sweetness, without it being overpowering.
Juice your limes, and pour the juice into the blender along with your ice. Once you strawberries have been sitting out for 2 or 3 minutes, add them to the blender.
