Blue Raspberry Vodka Slushy – Final Memorial Day Post

Blue Raspberry Vodka and Pink Lemonade. YUM!
Blue Raspberry Vodka and Pink Lemonade. YUM!

To cap off the Memorial Day posts that I’ve been making over the last two days, here is a delicious and cold drink that will satisfy your sweet tooth and is sure to be a hit. All you have to do for this is choose your favorite juice, I used Crystal Light Pink Lemonade, and add either vodka or rum, I used Blue Raspberry Vodka.

This is really easy to make, and you could make a lot of different flavors for a pretty low cost. All you do is follow the normal instructs for the juice (if you’re making it) to make a 2 quart tub. Then, pour that into a 9×13 cake pan (you can use a smaller amount if you use less juice/alcohol). Then, pour in about 1/2 -1 cup of your alcohol, depending on how strong you want to make it. Mix it up, and then put it in the freezer for a couple hours.

When it is completely frozen, it will look like this.

Late Night Smoothies to Make it Through Hell Week

Photo on 4-18-13 at 10.11 PM #2

I’ve always been a fan of smoothies and with the weather getting warmer, it’s a great time of year for them. It’s the time of the semester when it’s normal to have back-to-back papers do and everyone on campus looks like they haven’t slept in days (probably because most of them haven’t). Right now alone, I have two papers due tomorrow, one of which I’ve hardly started because I was working on a paper that I had due today. All of this stress and the lack of time leads to one thing for a lot of college kids; junk food.

This is the time of year when diets go out the window. It’s hard to find the time to cook food when you’re running between classes, the library, and work, while still trying to fit sleep in every now and then. But there are a few things that people should remember and some tips that I’m going to be updating throughout the rest of the semester.

TIPS:
1. When you cook, make a ton of extras so that when you’re on the go, you can just pop something in the microwave and have a quick meal. That way, you’re not going out to eat and spending money, or getting things that aren’t necessarily good for you at all.

2. Give yourself a break. I know it’s hard to imagine stopping for even a second when you’re only 4 pages into a 10 pager that’s due in 2 hours and you don’t have nearly as many sources as you should. But trust me, it’s the best thing you can do. Just five minutes of not thinking about your paper can make you feel so much better and, it can actually help you get your paper/project/assignment done a little faster.

3. Reward yourself. Don’t overindulge but you’re working hard. This is hell week. When you finish something, reward yourself for it, that way, you’re binging when you’re done. A small piece of chocolate or a small bowl of frozen yogurt is a great reward and it will help keep your sweet tooth satisfied.

That’s really all I’ve got for now, but as I sit here and write my next 10-pager that’s due tomorrow and I have maybe 2 pages of, I’m going to enjoy this delicious smoothie (it’s strawberries, mangos, and peaches by the way DELICIOUS). We can get through this.

Give Me That Carbonation

Lemon-Lime Fruit Water

I’m not really a fan of soda. When I do drink it, it’s because I’m craving carbonation. That being said, I found these Glaceau Fruit Waters in my local grocery store the other day and I’m kind of obsessed.

They have five flavors (at least that I have seen) and the three that I have tried have all been really good! I have the other two at home to try over the next couple days. They’re essentially seltzer water with more flavor than other ones that I have tried. So far, I’ve tried Lemon-Lime, Orange Mango, and Strawberry-Kiwi.

Basically, try them because they’re really yummy 🙂

After turning 21 I realized that drinks are not only really expensive, but they also have a lot of sugar in them. As much as I love Strawberry Daiquiris, I’m not in denial that they have a ton of sugar in them if you use the mixes. So, I’ve made it my mission to stop buying the sugary mixes and start making my own. That being said, I’m not claiming that these drinks are great for you, but they’re not as bad as the mix.

Last night, I decided to make myself a drink to unwind and have a little fun. I happened to have some frozen strawberries and peaches in my freezer and some mango rum in my fridge. I also had some Crystal Light Strawberry Orange Mango juice made, which ended up coming in handy.

To make two decent size daiquiris you’ll need:

1 1/2 cups frozen strawberries
1 1/2 cups frozen peaches
1/4 cup mango rum
1 cup strawberry orange mango juice
2 cups ice

Put all of the fruit, ice and rum in the blender. Add the juice slowly through the top and let it hit the desired consistency.

Drink and enjoy! Plus, feel a little less guilty when you do 🙂
